Chris Evans looked draper as he hit The Avengers set on Monday morning. Despite the rainy weather, the actor looked calm as he shot the very first scene in Cleveland, Ohio. Wearing his famous leather bomber jacket, Chris was solo on set before taking a few pointers from the director. Cleveland will be standing in as New York City as the production of the ambitious Marvel team-up action flick continues.

Chris will be joining his Avengers co-stars Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and more as they continue filming the Marvel film. The superhero flick is set to hit theaters May 4, 2012.

Captain America: The First Avenger hit theaters last month, and Chris chatted with Celebuzz all about the film, adding it definitely came with quite a few bruises.

"This was actually a movie where you went home with more bumps and bruises than usual just because he has special power and ability. He’s not flying around in the sky and he’s not bursting into flames. His powers are grounded in reality. So all he’s able to do are human things and as a result it’s a lot of hand-to-hand combat, in which case they don’t really need CGI so we all had to get the gloves on and get in the ring. You go home feeling pretty sore," he said.

It would be great if they have a pre-credits mini-adventure opening sequence like with the James Bond movies to ground the movie in reality with the Avengers and the rebels in Libya fighting Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s forces or the Avengers and the police in England fighting the rioters.
