‘Glee’ Gang Named Spokespeople for Fashion’s Night Out
Fans know Kurt as a fashion-forward (and label obsessed) dresser, but that’s all up to the wardrobe department. Chris Colfer says his character is far more aware of designers than he ever was. “When Glee started, I had no idea who Marc Jacobs was. In no way was I a fashion person!” he revealed to Vogue.
“Now, as Kurt, I get to wear all these amazing things, by people whose names I can’t even pronounce.”
That’s all part of the plan, according to the show’s co-creator Ryan Murphy.
“From the beginning, I asked the costume designer to give each of these kids an archetypal identity,” he says. “We didn’t want them to look like generic mall kids. Now their looks are being copied! On the show, they don’t get to wear designer clothes, except for Chris. In fact, people ask me all the time, ‘Where does he get those clothes in Ohio?'” If you’re wondering too, Ryan says he orders them online.
Just don’t expect the stars to start dressing like their onscreen personas. “I would never wear a sweater with an animal face!” Lea Michele says of the rather uptight and somewhat fashionably challenged Rachel.
Fashion’s Night Out is September 8, 2011.
