The September issue of Condé Nast Traveler will not only feature the humanitarian efforts of actress and producer Drew Barrymore. The issue (out August 23rd) is entitled “Visionaries” and also features a plethora of celebrity humanitarians like Hayden Panettiere, Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr, focusing on the efforts they make to change the world.

Panettiere has been involved in the effort to save the world’s endangered whales and dolphins since she was 15 years old. Now 22, she’s the spokesperson for the Whaleman Foundation, which fights to protect whales and dolphins from climate change, pollution, entanglements in fishing nets, and the expansion of whaling.

Panettiere says of her involvement with the Whaleman Foundation:

“I’m an activist who’s aware of what’s realistic to achieve and what’s not.”

Panettiere traveled to Taiji, Japan, in 2007 with documentarian Louie Psihoyos and a team of ninja surfers for the Oscar-winning documentary, The Cove. She tells Condé Nast Traveler:

“We knew we were up against a huge obstacle in Taiji. In the course of the slaughter, I saw a species in need. The trip inspired me to continue the fight.”
