Lala Vasquez Dishes on Kim Kardashian's 'Magical' Wedding, Her New Show & More!
Lala Vasquez is one of the busiest Hollywood ladies around and her red hot career isn't slowing down any time soon!
Between her new reality show Lala's Full Court Life, (which premieres Monday at 9 PM on VH1), her upcoming acting projects, and being a mother and wife, we don't know how she does it all!
Celebuzz sat down with Lala to get the scoop on her new show, Kim Kardashian's wedding and much more!
So, you attended Kim's wedding over the weekend, how was that? It was amazing. The wedding was beautiful and magical. I was so happy to be there and now the show premieres tonight. We’ve been promoting and getting the word out so everyone can tune in.
Lala’s Full Court Life is about your move to NYC and your life there. Yes. The show covers a lot of things. You definitely get to see when Carmelo was traded to NY and how crazy it was adjusting to coming back home. It could be a good and bad things because you deal with family and friends being happy you’re there, but it’s overwhelming. You get to see my friends be part of the show – like Kelly Rowland and Serena Williams and Kim Kardashian. You’ll see how we’re there for each other and how we get along. You’ll get to see my cousin who was on the first season struggling with issues of her sexuality. I think there’s something for everyone on this season of Lala’s Full Court Life.
How have you been adjusting to the move to New York? I do still split my time between New York and Los Angeles, so I feel like I get the best of both worlds by far. In the beginning it was overwhelming because Carmelo got the call that he was traded and within a day we had to be in New York. Literally, you’re life just gets turned upside down with one phone call in one day. Now that we’ve been there for a while, we’re starting to finally feel settled in. We got an apartment in the city and everything’s starting to fall into place now.
Now you and Kim will spend more time together since she’ll probably be splitting her time between both too. We split a lot of time together no matter where we are. We definitely make time for each other. Sometimes we’re both in New York and we’re crazier in New York than in LA. We always catch up with each other. It’ll be fun to have someone sharing both coasts with me and going back and forth.
You’re going to be in the new movie based on Steve Harvey’s book? Yes. Steve Harvey wrote a book called Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man. They turned it into a romantic comedy. I’m excited to be a part of it. We just wrapped about 3 or 4 days ago. You got everybody for this movie. There’s Jerry Ferrara from Entourage, Gabrielle Union, Taraji Henson, Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart, Romany Malco and the list goes on and on. It’s an amazing cast that I’m excited to be a part of. The fun thing is all the tricks and tactics from the book being turned into this movie.
Can you tell me a little bit about your character? I play Sonia. I’m Meagan Good’s best friend. Sonia is your friend that tell you that everything you’re trying to do is wrong and you’re crazy by reading this book and applying it to the relationship. I think we all have that friend that tells you that you’re out of you’re mind and that’s who I play in the movie.
You’ve been with Carmelo for a while. Did you have friends who tried to give you advice? I did. I think the best advice to get for relationships is from guys who you’re close with because guys know what they like girls to do, so I would always go to my brother and Ludacris, guys that I’m very close to, to give me advice. That’s what’s in the book. Steve Harvey does that with the book. He gives us an inside to what drives guys crazy and what to do. As funny as a lot of it is, some of it is very true and really could help a lot of people out.
Do you know when it’s supposed to be released? Yes. It’s supposed to be out around April. We just wrapped. I also just signed on to do a play in New York City called Love Lost and What I Wore. That’s also based on a book. I’m excited about that. It has people like Minka Kelly and Annalynne McCord. I auditioned and was chosen to be in the next cycle that starts October 5th and goes 5 weeks and we do 8 shows a week. I’m excited to do theater and have my first performance on a stage. That’s the next big thing that I’m excited for.
Do you know who else is on the cast? They’ve only announced me so far. It’s a rotating cast. If you look at some of the people that have done it already like Rita Wilson, Rosie O’Donnell, Vanessa Williams, Denzel Washington's wife – it’s had some really great people on that stage.
You have so many great things coming up. I do. Days like today where I’m delirious and tired just pays off. I’m hoping everyone tunes in to VH1 tonight at 9pm for my show.
