Snapped on Set: Penn Badgley Starts Filming ‘Greetings From Tim Buckley’ (PHOTOS)

Penn Badgley is ready to step out of his Dan Humphries role!

The 24-year-old actor, who regularly stars on the hit CW show Gossip Girl, started filming Greetings From Tim Buckley in NYC on Monday morning. Looking particularly bohemian, he kept things simple in a brown t-shirt and necklace.

So, what can we expect from this new film?

PB is taking on the role of singer Jeff Buckley, son of musician Tim Buckley and according to IMDB the film will center around:

"The true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley's eminent 1991 performance at his father's tribute concert in St. Ann's Church. Through a romance with a young woman working at the concert, he learns to embrace all of his feelings toward the father who abandoned him - longing, anger, forgiveness, and love. Culminating a cathartic performance of his father's most famous songs, Jeff's debut stuns the audience and launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians of his time."
One of Buckley's best known songs is his cover of "Hallelujah." Take a listen below.

Greetings From Tim Buckley is scheduled for release in 2012. Will you see it when it hits theaters? Let us know in the comments!

It should be noted that, unlike the other Jeff Buckley film, "Greetings From Tim Buckley" takes place during a one month period surrounding the 1991 concert in honor of his father which took place at St. Anne's Church in Brooklyn Heights, NY. It was at that time that Jeff Buckley was "discovered" when he sang a cover of Leonard Cohen's song, Hallelujah." In other words, Jeff Buckley's music should not be part of this film - particulary since he hadn't even cut an album at the time of the concert, in fact, to use anything written by Jeff would be anachronistic, at best. Jeff's first album was produced two years AFTER the concert in 1991.

absolutely will see this film. Jeff Buckley was one of the best performers to have graced (no pun intended) us with his talent. The joint bio "Dream Brother" was a great look into his life and troubles as not only a man but an artist trying to find his voice and separate his legacy from that of his fathers. This will be a great biopic and I am excited to see it actually happening.
