Winslet was quite the heroine on Monday, when a lightning strike courtesy of Hurricane Irene on Richard Branson's private island set his mother's house on fire. Winslet, who was among a gaggle of famous guests staying at the $70 million mansion, quickly sprung into action by carrying Branson's 90-year-old mother to safety.
Branson spoke to CBS News about the incident, saying:
"My mother's 90 years old and, in order -- although she can walk -- in order to speed the process up, (Winslet) picked my mother up and carried her, carried her out of the house, and so Kate helped rescue my mother."Watch video of the incident taken on the scene:
Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo were also at the mansion when the fire broke out, but there are no reports of any life saving on their end just yet.
