As Americans and the world remember the horrific events that occurred ten years ago on September 11, 2011, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet’s voice has become somewhat of an anthem of remembrance and pushing ahead.

Beyonce’s “I Was Here,” which originally was released on her recent album 4, was used as the backing song to a gripping ABC News video showing the memorials, tributes and landmarks of the September 11 terror attacks. The song, with lyrics like “When I leave this world I leave no regrets, leave something to remember so they won’t forget: I was here. I lived, I loved, I was here,” is sung behind images of mourning family members and others at the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa.

Throughout the video, images of the new World Trade Center memorial are seen, which was unveiled for the first time on September 11, 2011. I includes two pools with the names of the victims inscribed in the surrounding wall.

The song was also recently used as the soundtrack to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
