‘Mad Men’ Creator Discusses Obsession Over Christina Hendricks’ Curves
Christina Hendricks has one of the best bodies in Hollywood, so consequently that makes it one of the most talked about, too. Hendricks sidestepped questions about her figure at the Emmys, from the carpet (where a reporter inappropriately tried to ask a “spanx” question) to the press room.
Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner told the LA Times says that perhaps he had a hand in the people’s obsession with her curves.
“I’m kind of responsible — her physique was something that hadn’t been on TV in a long time,” Weiner said.
“She’s a sex symbol, and we’re at a point in time where it’s OK for people to say anything to anybody when you’re a public figure.”
Matthew went on to compare Hendricks to other iconic figures, and brought up that there is a difference in the media when it comes to men and women:
“Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, their physique is something that becomes a part of the culture…. I can’t make any jokes about it; I understand that it’s hard for [Christina]. But does anyone talk to Jon Hamm and say, ‘Lift your shirt up and show us your abs?’”
We so wish they would!
