Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard Have Separated

Zooey Deschanel is officially the new single girl, as she and husband Ben Gibbard have called it quits.

The couple confirmed to UsMagazine.com that after two years of marriage they have decided to separate. They call the decision "mutual and amicable," adding that it was made entirely between the two of them and that there "was no third party involved" -- ruling out any thoughts that perhaps infidelity played a role.

Deschanel has had a busy few months career-wise. Her new show on Fox The New Girl started off to promising reviews and was picked up for a full season, which comes back coincidentally on Tuesday night. Zooey also showed off her musical chops recently by belting out the National Anthem at the World Series, and has released a Christmas album with her group She & Him. 

As for Gibbard, he fronts the indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie.
