Charlize Theron: I’m Single for the First Time in My Life (PHOTO)
Actress Charlize Theron shows off her Oscar-winning looks in the December issue of Vogue, in which she discusses her new movie, Young Adult, her break-up from Stuart Townsend and how winning an Oscar for Monster completely changed her career.
“It was life-changing — it opened a lot of doors,” she said of receiving Hollywood’s highest honor. “But it made people have a lot of opinions about what should happen next. You realize quickly that you can never please everybody.”
The 36-year-old actress, who took a three-year hiatus from major movies, also revealed that filming Young Adult reminded her of how much she loved acting. “I really, really missed it. Like around week three, I had this horrible, sappy moment where I got a little overwhelmed. It was just a really great f***** experience.”
Charlize added she filmed the movie shortly after her break-up from actor Stuart Townsend, which she referred to as a “sinking” feeling.
“It was sinking, and I had to give it a fight,” she said. “I really wanted to try and make it work. That was the priority. I wouldn’t do it any different way.”
But even though she says this is her first time being single, Charlize claims it’s ultimately been a good experience for her thus far. “I’m a creature who’s really found her comfort zone in relationships,” she said.
Young Adult, which re-teams director Jason Reitman with his Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody, opens in limited release on Dec. 9.
