Elizabeth Banks Calls Outrageous ‘Hunger Games’ Character ‘Complicated’
The actress, who has starred in films such as Wet Hot American Summer and Role Models in addition to her recurring role on 30 Rock, stars as Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games, and recently chatted with People about her character. Effie is a handler of sorts who is in charge of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) before they head into the deadly arena.
So, what was the main way Elizabeth described Effie?
“Effie is a very complicated woman. She’s a spinner. She spins everything into something positive. These kids have been pulled from their loved ones to compete on television in this horrible event in which they will likely lose their lives.”
“Katniss is so strong, so courageous, and when faced with this overly positive, super-enthusiastic Effie, [Jennifer] and I definitely had some great moments of conflict.”
Also, if you haven’t got into the Games yet, here’s the film’s official synopsis: “Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which ‘Tributes’ must fight with one another until one survivor remains.”
It hits theaters on March 23, 2012.
