Rooney Mara Recalls Getting Drunk for 'Dragon Tattoo' Audition (VIDEO)
Rooney Mara had to do a lot of things to nail the role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She had to cut off her hair, she had to pierce her body. She even had to get really, really, really drunk.
According to Rooney, who appeared on last night's episode of The Late Show With David Letterman, filmmakers weren't quite sure if she had what it took to pull off Lisbeth's persona on screen. So, naturally, they told her to go out and get wasted.
"It had been two months at that point [of the audition process], and I was just relieved to go out and get drunk," Rooney quipped of the experience, which she claimed had her vomiting all night.
Rooney also said she had a tough time shaking the intense experience of filming Dragon Tattoo after production had wrapped - so much so, she almost strangled someone at her best friend's wedding. Yikes.
Luckily, Rooney has moved on to happier days. Just this morning, she was nominated for a Golden Globe in a category that includes legends like Glenn Close and Meryl Streep. Not bad!
