After a rather successful career in music, American Idol alum David Archuleta told fans in Utah Monday night that he's taking some time off.

David, 20, made a big announcement that he's taking two years off of music to pursue a full-time mission in association with the Mormon Church, TMZ reports.

With tears streaming down his face, the emotional singer told the crowd:

"It's not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because that I no longer want to do music anymore, but it's because it's the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life."
What do you think of David's announcement? Sound off in the comments!

you may want to start doing some research before you make idiotic comments like that. never make a comment without being completely sure of what one's religion is. it's rude, wrong and judgmental. clearly no one has ever taught you manners.

Admirable? Morman relgion preachs shit like the only way a black man can go to heaven is if he's a slave, and inter-racial marrges are obsene and punishable by death..it is a very backward phony religion!!!! (which just gained sm publicity cos of this stunt obviously! ) sic! )

I was actually thinking about him the other day, wondering what he was up to. This is admirable. We see a lot of LDS missionaries here (the Caribbean). I always feel sorry for them cuz it's hot and they're stuffily dressed, walk everywhere, and no one pays attention to them, not because we aren't religious but because in most Caribbean societies people are brought up in and stick to their religion from birth and it's pretty diverse between Christianity, Hinduism and Islam, and they tend to not appreciate outsiders preaching to them or trying to "convert" them to some other religion (even if that's not what they're trying to do).

It's an LDS (Latter-day Saint) Mission. They leave for 2 years and spread their faith in another state or country. Good for him!! He will be an awesome missionary.
