Demi Lovato Lashes Out at Disney for Eating Disorder Joke
On Friday, the songstress took it to Twitter to voice her concerns about a joke that was aired on the Disney Channel. Demi, who was admitted to rehab for an eating disorder last year, slammed Disney for making fun of anorexia on an episode of Shake It Up. She tweeted:
"I could just eat you up, well if I ate" - Disney Chanel's Shake It Up.... What are we promoting here? #notfunnyATALLShe then continued her rant in multiple tweets, saying:
I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress' from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about.. Dear Disney Channel, EATING DISORDERS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT.
However, Disney was quick to respond to Demi's concerns. They have since taken removed the offending episodes from their TV schedule. Through their PR Twitter account, the company tweeted back:
We hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them. It’s NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!Last month, former Disney starlet Miley Cyrus took it to Twitter to lash out at those who make light of anorexia. Along with a photo of an emaciated girl, Miley tweeted:
