Elizabeth Banks on 'Hunger Games': 'It's a Really Faithful Adaptation'
With Hunger Games' premiere only a few months away, the internet has been buzzing with speculations of how Katniss and Peeta's journey into the arena will unfold. Luckily for us, Elizabeth Banks, who plays the bubbly District 12 escort Effie Trinket, has been dropping us little hints here and there about the highly anticipated film (and it was just announced that tickets will go on sale starting February 22).
Celebuzz recently caught up with the busy actress to chat about her role in Hunger Games. Banks not only told us how Effie's creation all went down, but she also dished how the movie will fair compared to the beloved novels.
"It's a really faithful adaptation of the books," Banks told us. "I think if you've read the books, you're going to be really pleased because we don't deviated that much from The Hunger Games."
"The great thing about working on these films is that all the collaborators are amazing. [Director] Gary Ross is Academy Award nominated. The hair and make-up team is Academy Award nominated. The costume designer is Academy Award nominated," she added. "Everyone I collaborated with in creating Effie is pretty good at their jobs. They're top notch people and I think we came up with an amazing Effie."
According to Banks, Effie's looks took several days to put together as the crew tried to figure out everything from hairstyle to color schemes for the eccentric escort.
"We were literally sitting around and they put a hat on me and I'm like, 'Ah! She's there!' We just literally had this 'Ah Ha!' moment where we all said, 'This is it! This is her!'"
"I spent two hours in hair and make-up everyday," added Elizabeth. "My nails took the longest because I wear crazy nails. There are totally different nails for each outfit. They're amazing."
As for her favorite Effie costume? Elizabeth is keeping a tight lip until the film's release on March 23.
"It's green! That's all I can really say. It's green and it's rad!"
