Katy Perry Backs Out of People’s Choice Awards After Russell Brand Split
Amidst rumors that Russell Brand had been uninvited from the 2012 People’s Choice Awards, Katy Perry has backed out of attending the show. She sent out a message to her fans, revealing:
"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!"This would have marked Katy's first public appearance since Russell filed for divorce. What do you think about Katy not attending? Sound off in the comments!
Over the weekend, the “Fireworks” singer took it to her personal Twitter to clear the air for fans. Katy tweeted to her followers, “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, “close sources” or my family.”
Just a few days ago, Katy’s parents, Mary and Keith Hudson, addressed their daughter’s divorce from the British comedian. According to the NY Post, Perry’s parents told their congregation that “they believed Perry’s split was God’s way of bringing people to church” during a service at their evangelical church.
Russell filed for divorce on December 30, ending the couple's 14 month marriage. The couple began dating in 2009 and Brand popped the question four months later. The duo married in October 2010 in a lavish ceremony in northern India.
