Report: Kelly Clarkson to Sing National Anthem at 2012 Super Bowl
In what may be the best way to kick off a football game, well, ever, the AP reported on Wednesday that American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson will perform the National Anthem at the 2012 Super Bowl.
The source spoke on the condition of anonymity, as the Super Bowl is expected to confirm the announcement later this month.
Kelly, whose new single, What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger), is currently climbing the charts, has performed the National Anthem at sporting events before, though none quite on the level of the Super Bowl. Naturally, the gig brings with it an enormous amount of pressure, as seen last year when Christina Aguilera infamously flubbed the lyrics before millions of television viewers.
Past performers include Jennifer Hudson, the Dixie Chicks and, perhaps most famously, Whitney Houston. This year's Super Bowl halftime show will be headlined by none other than Madonna.
What do you think? Is Kelly the right choice to kick off the big game? Sound off in the comments now!
