Jennifer Hudson to Perform Whitney Houston Tribute At 2012 Grammys
When news broke that Whitney Houston had died Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, many wondered whether Grammy producers would have enough time to pull together a special tribute before the telecast aired on Sunday.
As expected, it appears that they have: In an interview with the LA Times, Grammy executive producer Ken Erhlich confirmed that Grammy-winning singer Jennifer Hudson will perform a "respectful musical tribute" during the telecast.
"It's too fresh in everyone's memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn't recognize Whitney's remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years," Ehrlich said.
"It's hard to think of an artist who had such an incredible instrument, not to mention beauty, which made her difficulties in recent years even harder to accept," he added, of Whitney's ultimate decline.
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards air tonight at 8PM on CBS. Be sure to visit Celebuzz throughout the night for full coverage of the telecast.
In the meantime, you can also check out a few performances from J-Hud's American Idol days, during which she tackled Whitney's 'I Believe in You and Me' and 'I Have Nothing.'
