Oscars Countdown: Celebrity Hairstylist Dishes Red Carpet Secrets
Celebrities may look flawless when they hit the red carpet, but there is a lot of preparation that goes into the big arrival. Celebuzz got the inside scoop from celebrity hairstylist, Sarah Potempa, who dished about the teams of people behind the stylish stars and the tips and tricks she shares with her A-list clientele.
When a celebrity hits the carpet, they look flawless. How long does it really take to get ready for the show? On average, about two hours for hair and makeup.
As a hairstylist, do you recommend that your clients wear their hair up or down at the Oscars? Why? It totally depends on the neckline of your dress. If you are going simple on top, wear your hair down and relaxed. If you’re wearing a large jeweled neck piece or have an ornate neckline, an updo is more appropriate.
What should every celeb carry in their clutches? If they’re wearing their hair up, definitely hair pins (not to be mistaken for bobby pins!). They’re much easier to use if you want to fix your own flyaways. Also, lip gloss and blotting papers are a must!
What tips/tricks are there to look great while being photographed? Chin down is always more flattering, and red lips make your teeth look whiter! Most importantly, you can’t go wrong if you put on a big smile and relax.
What is the biggest mistake a celeb can do on the red carpet? It looks unnatural when a celebrity does the same pose over and over. On the red carpet it’s best to just be yourself and relax.
Which celebs do you think will be the most stylish at the 2012 Oscars? Reese Witherspoon is always such a trendsetter. Also, Michelle Williams and Rooney Mara always dress beautifully for their bodies and take amazing fashion risks. None of these ladies can fail in my opinion!
