With cameras snapping from every angle, celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Michelle Williams have to be prepared as they hit the the red carpet at any event. But what does it really take to get a star red carpet-ready from top to bottom and everything in between? Celebuzz chatted with celebrity hairstylist Paul Anthony, a senior stylist at Jose Eber Salon, who dished all about the stars’ beauty secrets and the style advice that he gives to his clients before a big show.

On the red carpet, stars usually only carry a small clutch. What do you recommend they put in there?
Other than the standard lipstick and powder, it’s always helpful to carry a few bobby pins to maintain an Oscar worthy ‘do so it lasts through the after parties.

What is the biggest mistake a celeb can do on the red carpet?
The biggest mistake anyone can make on a red carpet is to blend in. These events are the perfect opportunity to stand out and shine. Don’t go for the same hairstyle people have seen you in at other red carpet events. This is the time to be dramatic and bold.

For the Oscars, what hairstyles do you recommend to your clients?
The Academy Awards carries such a rich history and tradition of glamour, it seems the perfect occasion to take advantage of a dramatic updo or side swept low bun.

When celebrities hit the carpet, they look flawless. How long does it take to get ready for the show?
To achieve a flawless Oscar look, hair and makeup usually takes three to four hours. You can’t rush perfection.
