Christie Brinkley Breaks Down to Tears on 'TODAY' (VIDEO)

What was supposed to be an interview in support of the theater production of Chicago ultimately left Christie Brinkley in tears. The 58-year-old supermodel stopped by the TODAY show Tuesday morning to chat with Matt Lauer, and though she wanted to talk about playing Roxie, the conversation never strayed from her role as mother and estranged ex to Peter Cook

Getting all choked up talking about her messy and very public divorce, Christie addressed the four year battle she's been having with Peter, who's been very outspoken about the breakup. "I have turned the other cheek," she told Lauer of her split from her husband of 12 years. "There's not one quote from me, anywhere. This is the first time I've ever been on a show (to talk about the split)."

Brinkley added of the split, "I have never taken part in name calling. The only thing I've ever said ... at the end of that (second) trial I said as a public service, 'Google divorcing a narcissist.' ... I'm not alone. I've gotten hundreds of letters from women that are going through this. It's not easy."

Towards the end of the interview, Christie broke down to tears when talking about how she wants him to leave her alone and respect her privacy. "He continues to contact me," she said, fighting back tears. "I just want peace. And every time I have any joy or any kind of success in anything, he has to try to destroy it."

The interview never got back to her role in Chicago to which Lauer apologized and told the model that he'd have her back to discuss.

I remember watching that episode of the Today Show, and thinking; wow...Matt Lauer is such a bully...why is he picking on Christi Brinklley. You reap what you sow.

Wow, I just watched this video, and now I feel shocked and angry. CB came on the show to talk about "Chicago," and Matt Lauer ambushed her. What an ass! Fire this guy!!!

Matt L is suffering from reduction of ratings, trying to rescue his show, Well you just fixed it for good with this interview, you failed terribly, Do your home work next time.

Speaking as someone who was married to a Narcisissist, and who divorced one, this is exactly what happens in the court system: they refuse to see who they are dealing with and are ignorant of the traits of a Narcisissist and how they project their behavior onto their victims. Christie is 100% correct-the court system needs to be changed and they cannot stand it when we find any joy "after" them and seek to destroy it. God bless you Christie as you fight this personal battle against Narcissistic Rage. Matt, get a clue and educate yourself, apologize to her publically, and devote an entire show or better yet a monthly series to coincide with DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH, to the education of the public on the devastation left behind from daring to leave a Narcisissist who quite frequently is also a sociopath with NO conscience.

i felt attacked just watching this... in the beginning he says what's the point of coming on here?? and then at the end he says the purpose of her visit was to promote Chicago.. Really Matt??? I have never seen such a terrible interview. He wouldn't even let her finish a sentence. Matt owes Christie a big apology!

This was so frustrating and painful to watch! He kept interrupting her her...bullied her and then would not let her respond. And nothing about Chicago. This was so hard to watch! Is he friends with Peter? or did he just think this interview was beneath him. So arrogant.

Matt Lauer should be ashamed of himself. Nothing but a bully! She came on to promote something she was excited about and proud of and he reduced her to tears talking about something she didn't intend to talk about in the interview.

Wow Matt Lauer, kick the Woman while she's down. Sounds like there was a personal vendetta, that Matt had to get out. Maybe something with his Wife that he felt the need to take out on Christie. What a self righteous shameless person. Shame on you Matt Lauer, chin up Christie Brinkley.

Ditto. The worst interview ever. How dare he. I was shocked and surprised that she did such shamelessly poor job on this interview. Obviously clueless as to what it is like to deal with someone who has a personality disorder never mind trying to divorce them with children involved. Shame, shame, shame on you. That interview was the worst thing I have ever seen.

Matt needs to leave the show! His interview with Christi Brinkley was uncalled for & seemed to border on tabloid-ism. SHAME on you, Matt. You have lowered the expectations of viewers like me in a big way & brought discredit to the whole network!!
