Christie Brinkley Breaks Down to Tears on 'TODAY' (VIDEO)
What was supposed to be an interview in support of the theater production of Chicago ultimately left Christie Brinkley in tears. The 58-year-old supermodel stopped by the TODAY show Tuesday morning to chat with Matt Lauer, and though she wanted to talk about playing Roxie, the conversation never strayed from her role as mother and estranged ex to Peter Cook.
Getting all choked up talking about her messy and very public divorce, Christie addressed the four year battle she's been having with Peter, who's been very outspoken about the breakup. "I have turned the other cheek," she told Lauer of her split from her husband of 12 years. "There's not one quote from me, anywhere. This is the first time I've ever been on a show (to talk about the split)."
Brinkley added of the split, "I have never taken part in name calling. The only thing I've ever said ... at the end of that (second) trial I said as a public service, 'Google divorcing a narcissist.' ... I'm not alone. I've gotten hundreds of letters from women that are going through this. It's not easy."
Towards the end of the interview, Christie broke down to tears when talking about how she wants him to leave her alone and respect her privacy. "He continues to contact me," she said, fighting back tears. "I just want peace. And every time I have any joy or any kind of success in anything, he has to try to destroy it."
The interview never got back to her role in Chicago to which Lauer apologized and told the model that he'd have her back to discuss.
