'She Did Not Die Broke': Whitney Houston's Mother Cissy Speaks For First Time, Blasts Broke Reports
Still grieving the loss of her daughter, Whitney Houston's mom Cissy is finally opening up about the singer's tragic death -- and blasting reports that the 48-year-old died broke.
“Whitney did not die broke. She’s not broke. She’s not anything ... None of that crap," Cissy Houston said in an exclusive interview on My9's The 10 O'Clock News, to air Monday.
“They think they know everything,” she said, referring to the tabloids. “These people don’t know anything about her. The media doesn’t know what they are talking about.”
When asked if she was proud of her daughter and the choices she made, Cissy insisted she raised Whitney the best way she knew how.
“I know I did the best I could,” she said. “I don’t blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything.”
Houston died on February 11 in her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton. She was discovered in the bathroom of the suite, where investigators found prescription pills.
The official cause of death was determined to be an accidental drowning, although other medical issues -- such as cocaine use -- were listed as contributing factors.
