Whitney Houston might no longer be with us, but we're now getting a deeper look into her last project.

On The Today Show Monday morning, a teaser trailer for Sparkle was released, and the "I Will Always Love You" singer is showing off her acting chops for the first time in 16 years. The last film Whitney acted in was The Preacher's Wife in 1996, where she shared the screen with Denzel Washington.

Though Whitney had some very public struggles in her last few years, as expected, the diva is shown singing in the trailer, and it appears as though she still had it.

The film also stars American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, and is expected to mirror a bit of Whitney's own life, with a plot as follows:

"Three sisters form a successful singing group and must deal with the fallout of fame and drugs."
It's expected to hit theaters on August 17, just a little over a week after what would have been Whitney's 49th birthday on August 9.
