Vanessa Williams recently shocked fans when she revealed that she had been sexually abused at a young age. In her new memoir, You Have No Idea, the Desperate Housewives star spilled that she was molested by teenage friend when she was only 10 years old.

Williams recalled the traumatic experience in the latest issue of People [via The Huffington Post]:

"She told me to lie down on the rug. I was confused. Are we going to play a game? As I tried to make sense of it, Susan pulled down the bloomers of my cotton baby-doll pajamas. 'What are you doing?' I asked. 'Don’t worry – it’ll feel good.'"
The 49-year-old actress kept her molestation a secret for years and did not comprehend what had happened until later on in life.

"I didn’t really understand until college," Vanessa said, recalling the moment when she realized . "I was with my boyfriend and it hit me and I blurted out: 'Oh my god -- I was molested.'"

Williams said that her revelation led her to "become a bit more rebellious" -- admitting to smoking marijuana and having an abortion as a young adult.

However, despite her career ups and downs, Williams kept strong and learned from her experiences, saying that she will always be honest with her children: Melanie, 24, Jillian, 22, Devin, 19, and Sasha, 11.

She told People, "It was part of my journey that led me to them and to where I am today."

i dont get why people come out with this stuff. yes i think it should be brought to attention of the abuse people go through. and that it will be ok....but come on abortions and drug use...? why was that necessary?

That's sad. It's also a shame because people don't really tell girls that they can be molested by other girls/women. They'll just say it's 'experimentation' and that will be the end of it. If a boy had done this to her, she would have realized what had happened sooner.
