'Sabrina The Teenage Witch' Movie Is Officially In The Works! Who Should Play the New Sabrina? (PHOTOS)
The Archie comic (and subsequently the beloved 90s TV series) has been approved for a movie makeover. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is fast tracking the negotiations for a live-action Sabrina The Teenage Witch film, with the the bewitched heroine retooled as a superhero coming to terms with her powers.
Since the most recent Sabrina -- actress Melissa Joan Hart -- is now a mom of two and a little past the "teenage" phase, Hollywood execs have their work cut out for them in finding a new witch for the movie. Behind the camera, writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are set to pen the script with Real Steel producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford, Archie Comics’ Jon Goldwater and screenwriter Jeff Stockwell all involved as producers.
Although Sony has kept mum about potential cast, Deadline reports that the film itself will have an edgier tone with Sabrina's beloved black cat, Salem, transformed into a prince that'll play into her love story.

I would love to see someone like Chloe Moretz tackle the role, but as long as the actress they pick is good at her job, I think anyone would be ok. My real concern is with the story. Funnily enough I'm not horrified by the idea of Salem in the story as a love interest - in pre-sitcom versions of his backstory there was a "Beauty and the Beast" element that might be fun to play with. What does weird me out, though, is the idea of giving Sabrina a Spiderman-esque origin story. It would be a radical departure from the history of the character and really alter the tone of the plot. I hope they drop the superhero nonsense.

I honestly HOPE they Do Not pick a Disney star..Especially a "singing Disney star". They' would just end up making it 'part musical'. Selena Gomez? Noway...Miley Cyrus? Her sister Emily Hart is in her mid 20's. Being MJH played Sabrina in her 20s, I don't see why not to cast her. She looks very similar to Melissa and would make a perfect Sabrina.

Imo, you cannot pick well-known tv stars to be Sabrina. Then all people will see and think when they watch the movie would be "Hannah Montana" or "Alex Russo" *SMH*

I actually wouldn't be opposed to Miley Cyrus filling this role. Her face somewhat resembles a young Melissa, and Hanna Montana was a comedy show, right? She's still young so she would fit the role, perhaps better than the others look-wise, at the very least.

I think they should get someone that's not as well known and is still in their teens. AnnaSophia Robb, Chloe Moretz or even Abigail Breslin wouldn't be bad choices

As a huge fan of the tv series, I reckon they are going to kill it. A superhero? Really? And as far as Salem being her love interest? Has no one thought that Salem is several hundred years old. And if its going to be Sabrina the TEENAGE witch, that would be a little bit strange. And I agree with what several other people have said. Melissa = Sabrina, anyone else playing Sabrina would just be wrong.

Selena may have been funny and amazing as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place but the thing is, she has no resemblance of the orginal Sabrina at all. Emma Stone and Emma Roberts have strickingly similiar facial features and also, I could see Emma Stone's witty and funny personality fitting the part perfectly, and Emma Robert's would do well as Sabrina too, due to her funny, confident persona.

I would love for Selena Gomez to be Sabrina. As we all know and saw, Selena was amazing and funny in The Wizards of Waverly Place. Sabrina the Teenage which is also a comedy, so who better than Selena to fill the role? Also, I'd love for either Anna Sophia Robb or Emma Stone.
