After narrowly escaping elimination multiple eliminations this season, Gavin DeGraw was finally set packing Tuesday night on Dancing With the Stars.

The hit singer had a major disadvantage headed into tonight's elimination episode; his Samba was trashed by the judges, and landed him and partner Karina Smirnoff with a disastrous 19 out of 30 points, the lowest score of the night, on Monday.

For the first time in Dancing With the Stars history, Tuesday's elimination was determined by a Dancing Duel, in which the Bottom 2 dancers performed side-by-side for the judges, who would then determine which couple to save. In the end, Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno unanimously chose to save Gavin's Dancing Duel rival -- actor Jaleel White, who fared much better on Monday. Like the judges' save on American Idol, the Dancing Duel -- which will continue for the next few weeks -- was implemented to keep some of the better dancers from suffering an early elimination.

Despite the bad news, Gavin remained light-hearted in the end, and thanked the show for what he referred to as an "amazing" experience.

"It's been amazing, just being part of the show," he said.

On a lighter note, the episode featured an appearance by singer-actress Selena Gomez, who performed her new hit single "Hit the Lights." Check it out below!

What do you think? Did Gavin deserve to be sent home this week? Or should he have lasted another week?
