In an exclusive interview with Celebuzz, Brad and Jen’s wedding snapper, Robert Evans, is speaking out about how the ex-couple managed to keep their 2000 nuptials shrouded in secrecy.
His recollections provide a fascinating insight into what we could possibly expect when Brad, 48, ties the knot for a second time, to the mother of his six children, Angelina Jolie.
“One day, this planner called me and said they were hiring a photographer for a Shell Oil corporate party — seriously,” said Robert, who also photographed Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ nuptials, along with those of Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.
“The planner didn’t even say anything about the wedding. Long story short, I submitted my portfolio and got picked.
“I was told I got the job — but still no one told me it was actually for Brad and Jen’s wedding.”
Two weeks before, Robert found out he was not photographing a ‘Shell Oil event’ but rather what was being touted as the wedding of the decade. He was ecstatic.
Recalling the moment, Robert said: “I laughed, cried, freaked out. All these emotions came flowing forward. I could not believe it. I was glad I had the two weeks prior to the wedding to calm down and get focused.”
So top-secret was the ceremony, though, Robert didn’t even meet the bride-to-be Jen until 48 hours beforehand.
When she and Brad exchanged vows on July 29, 2000, at a multi million-dollar estate in Malibu, Calif., two hundred guests watched on — including Cameron Diaz, Courteney Cox, Salma Hayek and Edward Norton — and Robert, through his lens.
The photographer recalled: “They were just like two little kids. They were smitten with each other. They were so in love, so sweet.”
According to Robert, he snapped hundreds of photos that recorded the intimate love Brad and Jen shared for each other, at the time.
“There was one shot during the ceremony where they’re both looking at each other and nobody was paying attention, except them,” he said. “They looked so smitten with one another.”
Yet by 2005, one-half of Hollywood’s most glamorous and photographed pairing wasn’t so in love, anymore.
Brad was still married to Jen when he met Angelina in 2005 while working on the film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” but the pair reportedly began a romance.
On March 25, 2005, Jen, now 43, filed court papers in a Los Angeles court citing irreconcilable differences — and the pair split.
Recalling the day that he heard the shock news, Robert confessed: “I was very disappointed when all that stuff started to come out. I didn’t believe it. It was a bummer because … they were smitten with each other.”
Brad and his fiancé Angelina, 36, announced their engagement on April 13, but have not yet revealed plans for their nuptials — his second, her third.
Meanwhile, Jen will celebrate her one-year anniversary with boyfriend Justin Theroux, 40, in May.
