Guilty: William Balfour Convicted of Murdering Jennifer Hudson’s Mother, Brother and Nephew
Jennifer Hudson's estranged brother-in law has been found guilty of the murder deaths of three of the singer's family members.
The verdict in the trial of William Balfour, who was married to Hudson's sister Julia, was announced in a Chicago courtroom at 5:30 p.m. ET. Friday after two days of deliberations.
Hudson, 31, was in the courtroom when the verdict was announced. The former Idol star was visibly overcome with emotion as the verdict was read and onlookers said her eyes filled with tears as she shook her head and bit her lip.
Balfour, 31, faces a mandatory life prison sentence.
Earlier Friday, the jury of six men and six women had sent the judge a note saying they were split on Balfour’s innocence or guilt.
Balfour was charged in the deaths of Hudson's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew.
Prosecutors alleged Balfour killed his victims in a jealous rage because Julia Hudson had a new boyfriend.
