Charlize Theron on Adopting: I Never Thought I'd Be a Single Mom (PHOTOS)
Although many were shocked when Charlize Theron adopted her son Jackson in March, the actress always knew she wanted to adopt a baby. Revealing that she made a promise to herself over 28 years ago, she told Australia's Madison magazine:
"My mother found [a letter I wrote]. It said, 'Would you please take me to orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby?' I always knew I would adopt. Always."Chatting more about her new bundle of joy, the 26-year-old actress does reveal she didn't think she'd be raising a child alone.
"You know, I don't think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn't wish for that, but it happened," the Snow White & The Huntsman star said.
Theron has been single since ending her nine-year partnership with Stuart Townsend in 2010.
Talking about marriage, she admits it "has never been that important to me. I don't know why exactly. Some might say it's because my parents didn't have a good marriage, but I don't think so. I treat my relationships like marriages. The ceremony isn't that important to me."
