Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees Dead at 62
"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery," an official statement read. "The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
The disco chart-topper, who popularized songs like "Stayin' Alive" with brothers Barry and Maurice in the 1970s, had been battling colon and liver cancer. Although his doctors said he'd recover, the singer lapsed into a weeklong coma last month.
Gibb was first diagnosed with colon cancer after undergoing bowel surgery for an unrelated condition almost two years ago. It was reported that his cancer was in remission as of March 2012.
Barry Gibb, the Bee Gees' eldest member, is the disco group's only surviving member. Robin's fraternal twin Maurice had passed away 2003.
