Want to know what to watch at the theater? Celebuzz is breaking down the blockbusters in our Big Summer Movie Guide!
In this episode, we take a look at the inspiration behind Tom Cruise’s Rock of Ages. The film takes place in the totally rockin’ 80’s and the music plays a major role for the inspiration behind the story and characters, with tracks from such acts as from Journey, Guns N’ Roses, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard.
Diego Bonetaand Julianne Hough star as Drew and Sherrie, two kids with dreams of being rich and famous. The movie follows their relationship as they meet and fall in love, only to be tested by the temptations of fame.
Where does Cruise, 49, fit in?
Cruise stars as Stacee Jaxx, the womanizing hair metal rock star, complete with an impressive physique and era-accurate tattoos as he showed off in a recent W magazine shoot.
The big screen adaptation of Rock of Ages follows a high successful run of the musical on Broadway, which stared former American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis. He was even nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the lead role of Drew.
The film version is directed by So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman, who also directed Hairspray and Glee.
Jennifer Aniston‘s boyfriend Justin Theroux wrote the screenplay.
Rock of Ages is in theaters June 15. Will it make your summer movie list?
