Christian Bale Breaks Down at MTV Movie Awards After Viewing Heath Ledger in 'Dark Knight' (VIDEO)
Even tough guys like Christian Bale get emotional once in a while. The Golden Globe winner broke down at Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards while he, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman presented the sequel Dark Knight Rises, but first featured a few scenes from Dark Knight that included the late Heath Ledger.
Following the scenes, Bale -- who plays Batman in the movies -- fought back tears after seeing Ledger portray the joker on screen. Ledger passed away in January 2008 at age 28, and Dark Knight was one of his last films. Bale quickly got himself together and the three men introduced Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan who then presented the highly anticipated summer sequel.
Dark Knight Rises features two new villains.
Tom Hardy takes on the character of Bane, while Anne Hathaway plays the sexy Catwoman. The comic book movie is set eight years after Dark Knight — which came out in 2008 — and begins after Batman took the fall for Two Face’s crimes and now a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham.
The film hits theaters July 21, 2012.
