Kelly Clarkson Admits She Hated Her Life, Wanted to Quit Music 'A Dozen Times'
Although she has achieved levels of success that most artists can only dream of, Kelly Clarkson admits she hated her life in the first four years after she won American Idol, telling Redbook magazine, "I almost quit a dozen times."
In one of her most candid interviews to date, the 30-year-old singer recalls how vulnerable she felt as she tried to kick-start her music career, in 2002.
What did she reveal?
"I'm going to be completely honest – I had no one looking out for me," she said (via PEOPLE). "They were looking out for the show, and it was horrible. I was 19 years old. I was smart enough to know that it wasn't about me, but that didn't make it any easier."whom she stepped out with for the first time last week.
She's also lost a reported 30 pounds in six months, which she credits to a healthy workout routine.
"I do cardio. I run. I strength-train using my own body weight. I don't like free weights, because I build muscle easily.""Really, what I try to instill in my fans is to be healthy and happy. I have no desire to be super-skinny," she said.
You can catch Kelly every Thursday on the new ABC reality-competition series Duets. The July 2012 issue of Redbook hits stands on June 12.
