American Idol champ Phillip Phillips finally underwent surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday to remove the “enormous” kidney stones inside his body, according to TMZ.

The report said the surgery took six and a half hours to complete. Phillips, unable to pass the stones on his own due to their size, is said to be recovering well.

The 21-year-old from Leesburg, GA, was supposed to have the surgery last week; however, it was delayed after he was stricken with a sinus infection and fever.

As Celebuzz previously reported, the surgery will not affect Phillips’ appearance on the American Idol summer tour, which begins July 6, in Detroit.
