'American Idol' Winner Phillip Phillips on Successful Surgery: 'I'm Healing Quickly, Ready to Start My Career'
American Idol winner Phillip Phillips checked out of the hospital Sunday afternoon after undergoing kidney surgery in Los Angeles and is ready to hit the road for the AI season 11 tour.
"I'm so glad the surgery went well and that I'm healing quickly. I'm ready to start my career and play music for the fans and I'm really excited for tour!" Phillips said in a statement to Celebuzz.
"Thank you to the fans and everyone for your continued prayers and concerns."
As previously reported, Phillips underwent a six and a half hour procedure to remove “enormous” kidney stones that he was unable to pass on his own. The surgery was expected to take place a few weeks ago, but was pushed back when Phillips became stricken with a fever and sinus infection.
The Idol winner is back to work and will be ready to go when the American Idol season 11 summer tour kicks off in Detroit, on July 6.
Phillips, who was often compared to the likes of Dave Matthews during his run on the series, was crowned the winner of season 11, on May 23, ousting 16-year-old power vocalist Jessica Sanchez. He has since dominated the charts with his debut single, ‘Home,’ which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
