‘American Idol’ Winner Phillip Phillips: My New Music Will Not Be Like ‘Home’ (VIDEO)

Phillip Phillips' Surgery
'American Idol' winner is healing quickly
Celebuzz caught up with American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips in Hollywood, Calif. Wednesday, where the Top 10 are preparing for their upcoming 45-city “Idols Live” tour this summer.

Phillips’ coronation track Home climbed to the top of the charts quickly after he was crowned the new idol, but fans shouldn’t expect his future music to sound like the song.

“It’s not going to be too much like Home, it’s gonna be a little bit more rock, have more edge to it, so I’m excited,” Phillips told Celebuzz. “I’ve been writing, I’m really excited.”

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the winner post-Idol:

The 21-year-old Georgia native underwent a six and a half hour surgery earlier this month to remove “enormous” kidney stones, but friend and finalist Colton Dixon said Phillips is doing “really, really well now.”

“America couldn’t have gone wrong with a winner from ‘American Idol’ this season, but Phillip has been to hell and back to get it, so I’m really proud of him,” Dixon, 20, told Celebuzz. “His attitude too– he’s never going to let you know he’s hurting.”

Skylar Laine, 18, who placed fifth this season, said: “He’s on the road to recovery and we’re really proud of him.”

Elise Testone, 28, who performed a killer Gotye duet with Phillip this season, also told Celebuzz she’s extremely impressed at how well her friend is recovering.

“He’s doing great he actually played a joke on me the other day,” said sixth-place-finalist Testone. “I pictured him laying in bed, but he’s fine!”

Earlier Wednesday, Phillips was serenaded with a rendition of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” by his tourmates and fellow Idol contestants.

The top 10 finalists will embark on the 45-city tour in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, July 6 and wraps in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday, September 11.
