Chris Pine on '50 Shades of Grey': I'd Look at the Script (EXCLUSIVE)
Is People Like Us star Chris Pine gunning for the lead in 50 Shades of Grey?
When asked if he'd consider stepping into the role of the highly sexual, controlling entrepreneur Christian Grey, Pine told Access Hollywood: "It’d be a hell of a choice for me, I think. It sounds like an interesting film.”
The actor first learned that the popular book trilogy had been picked up by Universal back in April of this year. But Celebuzz asked Chris during a recent interview for his new film People Like Us if he was seriously interested in the part:
"The only reason this came out is because I was asked on the red carpet in Las Vegas if I had read it, or if I was interested in it," Pine told Celebuzz. "Just as you do on red carpets as people throw questions at you, you try and answer as quickly as possible... but I don't know anything about it other than I know many women that are reading the novels, and enjoy them very much."
Hollywood stars like Vampire Diaries hottie Ian Somerhalder and True Blood hunk Alexander Skarsgard have expressed interest in the lead role, as well.
"If it's a good script... I'd take a look at it," said Pine, "but I don't know anything other than that."
Though Pine's 50 future may be uncertain, the actor does know what drew him to his People Like Us character Sam: The evolution and transformation he was able to play out in the film.
"I really liked a guy trying to be a better person. I thought that was a good story," Pine told Celebuzz.
In the film, Pine's character is tasked with delivering money from his deceased father's estate to the sister he has never met, played by Elizabeth Banks.
"It's a really recognizable, relatable group of people in this film," Banks, 38, added. "It's a movie about family, finding family and how you can create family as an adult... Our characters have a deep connection, but we don't understand and we get to figure out why."
On the career horizon for Banks is Catching Fire, the much anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games. Is she as invested as fans are about who should be cast as Finnick?
"I think the casting of all these characters so far has been incredible, so I trust the process to deliver us an amazing Finnick," Banks told Celebuzz.
