Katy Perry on Russell Brand Divorce: 'I Regret Nothing'
Katy Perry is opening up about "the one who got away.”
In the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, the pop star talks about her divorce from funnyman Russell Brand – and says that she has no regrets.
“I still believe in love and marriage,” the 27-year-old reveals. “I’ve just learned lessons along the way. I regret nothing.”
Perry and her former husband, 37, met when she filmed a cameo for his Get Him to the Greek movie in 2009; perhaps prophetically, the scene was deleted from the film's final cut. But fans can get an inside peak at Perry and Brand’s marriage in the singer’s new film, Katy Perry: Part of Me -- and the dissolution of it.
Was it hard for the pop star to wear her heart on her sleeve as the cameras rolled?
According to Perry, no.
“Honesty has always worked for me,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter's music editor Shirley Halperin. “So if it ain’t broke, why f*ing fix it?”
Another aspect of Perry’s life that doesn’t need fixing: her relationship with her born-again, evangelical minister parents. Gossipmongers have long whispered that Perry is estranged from them, but the singer says she’s still tight with her folks – despite the fact that she readily admits she’s “no poster child for Christianity.”
“People love the idea of a good girl gone bad, thinking that my parents were so strict and disowned me, but that actually wasn’t the case,” Perry says. “Even though they don’t necessarily agree with some of the things I do, they love me as their daughter. That’s always been their perspective.”
“My frugal business manager, God bless him, was sweating,” she says. “And I was like, ‘Please trust me.’ That’s kind of been the mantra I’ve said to everyone my whole life: ‘Trust me, I have a vision.’ ”
