Celebrity chef Rachael Ray may be able to whip up a feast for kings but she says when it comes to presidents, an American classic is “yum-o”.

Getting into the spirit of Independence Day grilling early, the talk show host, 43, tells Celebuzz if she had the President Barack Obama and his First Lady Michelle over for dinner, she would serve them a hefty plate of burgers.

Is there ever an occasion when this dish would be a faux pas?

“I really do think so,” Ray, who is tonight presenting a Daytime Emmy on HLN for Outstanding Culinary Program, tells Celebuzz exclusively.

“The first time I met them — before he was elected when they were on the campaign trial — they were eating a cheeseburger.”

She added, “People often ask if I was cooking for the President and the First Lady what would I make for them — my answer is burgers!”

The Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off star is a touch obsessed with the hamburger, having just released her new cooking guide The Book of Burger.

However, for those getting ready to fire up the grills on July 4, Ray said there is no such thing as a perfect burger.

“I don’t think there is one definition for that,” she said. “I make burgers out of everything: seafood, grains and vegetables as well as beef, pork and chicken. Burgers can be whatever the cook wants to make them.”

“It’s a fun way to entertain but it can be as elegant as any other meal,” Ray chimed.

However, the food mogul doesn’t serve up beef patties to every celebrity.

“I loved cooking for Tom Jones – he was my first crush — I made him rabbit cacciatore,” Ray confessed, giggling. “I love cooking for people, it is a way to share your feelings for them.”

Despite being a celebrity chef, Ray admits there’s still one kitchen companion that strikes fear into her heart — Gordon Ramsey.

Although she described the controversial English chef as charming and good looking, Ray says his shows — Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen – are too “intense” for her.

“I was watching one the other night from the new season and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can never get in that kitchen,’” Ray reveals.

“He is extremely exciting to watch but I would be scared to death to cook along side him in his kitchen.”
