'Magic Mike' Star Adam Rodriguez: There's More to the Film Than Beefcakes (EXCLUSIVE)
"I love the story," the 37-year-old -- best known for his long running role as Eric Delko on CSI: Miami -- told Celebuzz, in a one-on-one video interview.
"I thought there was some great humor in it, I love the interaction between the guys."
What else does the film, also starring True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello and being released on June 29, explore?
The "dark side" of the stripping world, Rodriguez told reporter Amanda Hasaka.
"I love the fact that all of these people [for the most part] that end up [being strippers] for a living, it's sort of a means to an end in their mind. They're like, 'I'm going to do this, until I get to this place. This is sort of a place holder until I really live my dreams -- whether it's go to school and graduate, or building some business.' And what really ends up happening is that becomes your life. You get consumed by that and what the lifestyle entails -- the partying and the making the money that comes pretty easily. So there is a dark side to it, and we do explore that in the movie. And I think people need to see that. I think it's something that will resonate with people. That was important to me; I was glad that was an element to the story."
Magic Mike tells the story of a male stripper Mike (Tatum), who teaches a younger performer (Alex Pettyfer) how to party, pick up women -- and make easy money.
Rodriguez also spoke about his sexy dancing scenes:
"You feel completely uncomfortable, scared, nervous, and excited. I haven't had butterflies like that in a long time. The minute the music starts ... it all goes away. You just forget about everything and get lost in the moment."One thing viewers certainly won't forget after watching Magic Mike is the interesting -- and risque -- stage name given to Manganiello's character in the film.
What's the nickname given to Rodriguez's character? You will need to watch the video, above, to find out!
