‘Magic Mike’ Star Channing Tatum: Private Dances Were a Prerequisite For My Marriage

When Magic Mike hits theaters this Friday, it’s safe to say Channing Tatum’s wife, Jenna Dewan, will be the envy of women everywhere.

During a press conference for Warner Bros.’ Magic Mike, Celebuzz asked Tatum if he treated his wife to any private dances at their home during production of the film.

“My wife married a stripper,” laughed Tatum. “She knew what she was getting into and she made that a prerequisite for the marriage.”

In Magic Mike, Channing– along with cast mate’s Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, and Alex Pettyfer– strip down and bare it all.

“I just respect these guys for jumping into the thong with both feet and out onto the stage,” said Channing, 32, about his costars. “I’ve done it before and it was still nerve-wracking for me. I can’t imagine what these guys had to go through.”

Tatum, McConaughey and Pettyfer all have some killer solo dance’s in the film, but all the guys had performances that didn’t make the final cut (but will be on the DVD). Said Channing:

Bomer had to go first and I felt so bad. I was like, ‘Maybe I should go first!’ Everybody just committed, and everyone went for it. I wish we had time in the movie to show everyone’s solo dance. It’s a humbling thing to get up there, where you are left with very little to the imagination in front of 300 people. It’s very nerve-wracking.”

Aside from the fact that Channing Tatum was a stripper when he was younger, the actor insisted Magic Mike is not based on anyone’s “true story.” Tatum’s former fellow strippers are attempting to sue, claiming the film was ripped off their lives.

Tatum told reporters in reference to the lawsuit: “Look, there’s nothing that’s factual in this whole movie other than I was an 18-year-old kid, went into this world, dropped out of college, played football and was living on my sisters couch.”

He added:

There’s not one character that I took from my real life. This is just the world that I went into and that I had a perspective on. We created everything from a fictional place.
