Miley Cyrus Gushes Over Fiancé Liam Hemsworth: ‘I Love Him Because He’s Like My Dad’ (VIDEO)
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have spoken out for the first time since their shock engagement was revealed on June 6, telling Celebuzz -- in their first interviews -- that they couldn’t be happier.
The newly-engaged couple stepped out together for the first time since the announcement, walking the red carpet in Los Angeles, Calif. at the Australians In Film Awards & Benefit Dinner at the InterContinental Hotel on Wednesday night.
The 19-year-old 'Party in the U.S.A' singer revealed why she loves 22-year-old The Hunger Games star Hemsworth -- because he is like her famed father Billy Ray Cyrus.
“My Dad has always been a really hard worker so I like when men work hard,” Cyrus said.
“I always work really hard, so it is good to have some that is as passionate at what they do and wants to be great at what they do, instead of just being okay. We always strive to have 130 per cent.”
"Life is really, really good," added Hemsworth -- who received the Australians in Film Breakthrough Award for his work in international films.
The Last Song actress said Hemsworth -- and Australian men in general -- remind her of her Southern upbringing. Cyrus grew up on a 500-acre farm in Franklin, Tennessee.
“They are a little more respectful,” Cyrus told reporters. “There is a masculinity about it, it's probably like growing up in the South, like what I did, it is very respectful.”
But there is a difference between American men and those from Down Under, like her beau, the singer said.
“They are way hotter, there is no competition,” Cyrus said with a laugh.
“None of them are (bad looking). All his friends come over, I hate it -- no it’s great!”
Cyrus’ The Hunger Games fiancé also said he could not be happier having proposed to his famous girlfriend on May 31 -- with a 3.5-carat cushion-cut diamond ring handcrafted in 18-karat gold -- after three years of dating.
"I’m working so much right now and life is really, really good,” Hemsworth -- who is currently filming Empire State with Dwayne Johnson and Emma Roberts -- said.
The Australian actor confessed he was not shocked by all the attention his private at home proposal caused.
He said: “It was expected but we are very, very excited and very happy. So it is great.”
But do not get too excited to see the pair down the aisle any time soon. When asked about the actual wedding, Cyrus refused to answer any questions.
