Celebs Gone Broadway
Who left the big screen for the stage?
When Magic Mike screenwriter Reid Carolin attended the film’s premiere last weekend, he revealed that they were planning to take the stripper movie to Broadway.

Now, it’s been confirmed by Deadline that not only will the movie — out on June 29 — be adapted for theater, but they’re hoping to have it ready by as early as next summer.

It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that this is happening, especially considering the film, loosely based on Channing Tatum‘s past as a male stripper, raked in nearly $2 million on midnight screenings alone. Not to mention millions have been buzzing about the sexy stripping scenes featuring some of Hollywood’s hottest hunks, including True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello and White Collar star Matt Bomer.

This wouldn’t be the first time a hit film got the Broadway treatment.

One of the original big screen to Broadway adaptations was the 1991 animated film, Beauty and the Beast, which was turned into a stage musical that debuted in 1994.

Since then, films such as 1988’s Hairspray, 2001’s Legally Blonde and even another Disney cartoon — 1989’s The Little Mermaid — have all been on the “Great White Way.”
