Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Divorcing
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are ending their marriage.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to Celebuzz. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
Cruise, 49, and 33-year-old Holmes began dating in April 2005; they made their first public appearance together in Rome, Italy.
Before long, the actor proclaimed his love for Holmes on the Oprah Winfrey Show -- and famously jumped on her couch in excitement. They were engaged by June, and welcomed daughter Suri in April 2006.
In November of that year, Cruise and Holmes finally walked down the aisle in a glamorous wedding held inside a converted 15th-century armory in Italy's Odescalchi Castle. The bride wore a gown designed by Giorgio Armani while Cruise donned a navy two-button Armani tux; the two exchanged platinum-and-diamond Cartier Dia Eternity bands. An array of stars glittered at the ceremony: guests included Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Brooke Shields, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy.
There was also one other VIP on hand: then-7-month-old daughter Suri. The toddler sported an ivory silk tulle Armani outfit to match Holmes'.
A reception was held in the castle's Hall of the Caesars, where Holmes and her father danced to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." The bride and groom then took to the dance floor to the tune of Fleetwood Mac's "Songbird."
TV star Jenna Elfman – another guest at the event – told PEOPLE magazine at the time, "The first dance, I was bawling. They were just looking into each other's eyes. It was amazing."
Prior to his marriage to Holmes, Cruise was wed to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman. He and Kidman adopted two children together: Isabella, now 19, and Connor, 17.
