'50 Shades of Grey' Author Rules Out Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart for Movie

Fans are running wild with speculation over who will play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, but author EL James has just ruled two people out: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

"I think it would be too strange,"  the author said in a recent interview about casting the real-life couple. "It would just be .. Uggh weird!"

Just how closely inspired was James by Twilight, and Rob and Kristen's performance in the film?

The author answers:

"The characters grew; they started that way and developed into completely their own people. It was fascinating getting to know them and know them very well. I didn’t see an outline straight away; I had no idea where these books were going to go. I just went with them. As I go to know them they grew a life of their own."
Since Pattinson, 27, and Stewart, 22, are not going to be in the film, who does the British author want to bring Fifty Shades to the big screen?

"I have about four people in mind for Ana and three for Christian," James said. "But I’m not telling anyone what they are because I’m not allowed to discuss the movie at all which is a real shame. Things are moving quite slowly on that."

When Celebuzz talked to Kristen Stewart recently, we asked what she thought about racy novel. Listen to her answer here:

I would NOT watch it if RPattz or KStew were in the movie! Granted, I haven't seen Snow White yet, but both of their acting in the Twilight series is horrifying! As someone said before, they need to get Ian Somerholder to play C Grey.

50 Shades should not be a movie. Leave it as a fantasy get away for readers. As someone else said, it would basically be a porn film.

  • Michelle

Jensen Ackles or Matt Bomer should play Christian Grey, they would be awesome for that part. There are a few actresses that can play Ana, I just hope they get the details right since they wont be able to add the full sex scenes from the book.

Considering there is very little storyline and plot to the book I imagine it will be very hard for them to make this movie without it being straight up porn (it would be very short without all the sex scenes). As such, they should get porn stars to play the part.

I agree totally with Kate's comment and do not find Robert Pattinson very attractive. Bradley Cooper comes to my when I read the books because the books mention Christian with copper colored hair and I think Cooper would be a really handsome Christian with that hair color. If just simply going by the hottest actor capable to play the role regardless of hair color then I vote Colin Egglesfield!!! I think Cooper still has more of the C. Grey persona though.

That is great news! I didn't think either of these two would do for the movie. I think Ian Somerhalder is definitely the best pick and he has that gaze she talks about in the book. He is who I pictured throughout the book. I never watched Vampire Diaries before until his name came up for the book. I checked out VD and he is absolutely perfect!

Kristen is actually amazing, that dress on her is magical!

SO true! I didn't even think Robert Pattinson was hot enough to play Edward he's surely not hot enough to play Christian Grey! What a shame that EL James can't really talk about the movie but we have at least moved 1 step closer now knowing 2 people who won't be cast and I'm thankful Kristen won't be in it either. I do love Twilight but I don't see either of them as Christian and Ana. I see Ana as a blue eyed Lily Collins.

Pattinson and Stewart would never ever ever ever ever ever even have an 1-second-thought about being in this movie. EVER. Get this in your heads and realize that there was no way this was ever gonna happen and stop having false hopes about it. And whoever stars in this, really has to lower their standards and not because of the sex and the nudity, but because the story is more like a cliche soap opera with an idiotic story line and underdeveloped and superficial characters. Pattinson and Stewart would never lower their standards like that, especially now that they are getting in the world of more award-type movies. But even if it was the greatest story ever they still would never consider it, because of how closely associated it is with Twilight.

I hope so much that Ian is Christian. I agree he just has the persona and the look. I imagined him as I was reading the books and he's just perfect, absolutely. I can't even think of a more perfect Christian Grey than Ian.

Well if the book is not your cup of tea so be it, just to point out this is the biggest and fastest selling e-book as well as paper back! And was also only started out as a fan written book! There was plenty of people hating twilight when that came out I seem to remember the quote "teen vampire moody piffle" as one description! I hope they do steer clear of this film as let's face it, they will always be remembered as Edward and Bella! We need new blood for 50 shades please! James won't be worried about bad reviews with all the money this big seller is earning, no likey no ready!!!!

  • Jo

What about Cam Gigandet as Christian?

  • Marie

But this book is just a big shit! Low-end porn! If you want a sex-toy or real eroctic literature, there are so many great authors, try Anais Nin, Henry Miller, Catherine Millet, or others! I cannot believe that a studio is seriously thinking about making a film of this crap .... the actors who will play in this shit will be grilled in the business! as those who played in "Showgirls"

  • Kay

Very well said babes...People need to know its not a disadvantage that theyre not going to be in it.Its better for them not to involve themselves with it.

  • Kay

I love Rob and Kris but i think its even better for them not to do it.They need to move on to something better than this.I think its a bit weird too that they'ld act in an original twilight fanfiction.Even if she hadnt said it,Rob and kris wont act in it too........At least my mind is at rest now.

  • katia

Well, I don't want Rob and Kristen now where near that shit....so to me this is GREAT new. I want Rob and Kristen in classy, intelligent and challegings roles...and "50 Shades of grey" doesn't enter in any way in those categories

  • twinklemepink06

    oh thank god!

They should definitely cast Ian Somerhalder for Christian Grey... He is really great in showing a dark side and I think that's really important for whoever will finally play christian. The second thing is, Anastacia says or thinks a lot about christians gaze. So the actor who will play him should be able to have this kind of a gaze... you know, the kind of where everyone is going to be like: "Wooow" and I think Ian definitely got this aptitude! For all of you who are watching The Vampire Diaries.. when Damon (ian) compels someone, he gets this amazing gaze where you think to yourself, if he'd look at me this way, Id definitely do everything, and I think that's what makes him the perfect one for christian! ;)

  • Kate

They need someone more universaly accepted as hot. A lot of women find Pattinson to be skinny, pale and greasy, not attractive at all. Christian Grey is a guy who is universaly hot.

  • laura

It needs to be Robert Pattinson --he fits it perfectly and its the only way to draw the audience. But he needs to be cast with an unknown female actress.

  • tootsieroller

If Robert Pattinson is not C.Grey I won't see the film. I read the book that was written with him in mind and anyone else will not do it for me. How sad. Oh well moving on and forgetting that failed project!

  • nmad

I think what she meant is that they would never star in such crap. I read a few chapters, and was completely astounded at how poorly it was written. I couldn't overlook the poor style and grammatical errors
