R&B Singer Frank Ocean Comes Out; Reveals His First Love Was a Man
In a move that many find groundbreaking for an R&B hip-hop artist, the 24-year-old posted a heartfelt letter on his Tumblr account and revealed that his first true love was a man.
“4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too," wrote Ocean, who was dating a woman at the time. "We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. ..By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless... There was no escaping, no negotiating to the women I had been with, the ones I cared for and thought I was in love with.”
Bloggers had began speculating about Ocean's sexuality after the Def Jam artist previewed his debut album, "Channel Orange" -- in which he reportedly sings on a number of songs and uses the pronoun "him" instead of "her."
Wrote Frank in the letter: “I don't have any secrets I need kept anymore ... I feel like a free man.”
He certainly has the support of his bandmates.
After posted his letter, Odd Future's Tyler the Creator tweeted, "My Big Brother Finally F***ing Did That. Proud Of That N**** Cause I Know That S*it Is Difficult Or Whatever."
Ocean isn't the only celebrity to recently discuss his sexuality. Earlier this week, Anderson Cooper announced that he's gay (see video below).
