‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Seth Meyers: The Frontrunner for ‘Live With Kelly’ Co-Host (REPORT)

Bob Wants to Go 'Live'
The trainer says he wants to co-host with Kelly.
Seth Meyers is rotating back in as the week’s guest co-host on Live With Kelly starting Monday. But if one gossip columnist is to be believed, then he may have a much longer stint coming up.

According to Showbiz 411, the Disney-ABC TV Group will be making a decision on who’ll officially replace Regis Philbin in September and its list is down to three candidates: Meyers, retired footballer Michael Strahorn and singer Josh Groban.

Yes, really! We understand that list is… eclectic. Accordingly, Meyers is apparently the frontrunner for the position according to the report. Insert “duh” here.

How will the show decide if the funny man is right for the job?

The handsome, fast on his feet Saturday Night Live writer and “Weekend Update” anchor’s upcoming one-week guest co-hosting stint (the first one since How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris) is apparently some kind of test during July sweeps.

According to the report, if Meyers takes the morning show gig he will resign his writing job at SNL but continue doing the “Weekend Update” sketch.

A show spokesperson tells Celebuzz it does not comment on co-host speculation. And Meyers’ reps didn’t immediately respond to our requests for comment.

Philbin left the morning talk show in November of last year after 28 seasons. Since then, several stars have co-hosted with Ripa, including newly out newsman Anderson Cooper, Jerry O’Connell and Kelly Ripa’s soap opera actor husband Mark Consuelos.
