Tom Cruise’s personal life might be in shambles at the moment, but he is atop Forbes magazine’s annual list of the world’s highest-earning actors.

The magazine reveals that Cruise earned nearly twice as much as his closest competitors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler.

Forbes estimates that the Rock of Ages star earned $75 million US between May 2011 and May 2012, compared to $37 million US each for DiCaprio and Sandler.

In compiling this yearly list, Forbes considers factors such as upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements and advertising work.

The ranking was released Tuesday on Cruise’s 50th birthday (July 3) and just days after news emerged that his third wife, actress Katie Holmes, has filed for divorce.

Holmes announced her decision to divorce the actor, 49, on Friday. A rep for Cruise said he was “deeply saddened” by the announcement.

She is seeking sole custody of her 6-year-old daughter, Suri, with a source noting, “She felt she had to get out to save her daughter.”
