'Good Afternoon America' Debuts: What We Loved, What To Expect
The friendly faces of sunrise can now be seen every afternoon on ABC’s Good Afternoon America. The summer show launched on Monday at 2 PM with Good Morning America hosts Lara Spencer and Josh Elliot.
The timing may be just right for ABC to extend its GMA brand as the morning show's ratings have not only closed the gap between it and NBC's Today, but has also won the ratings race several days this past year.
Celebuzz weighs in on what viewers can expect from this extra afternoon addition:
What we loved: Spencer and Elliot gave a fun loving feel to this afternoon time slot by diving right into the hot celebrity topics (our fave) of the day in the "One Stop Pop News" part of the show.
Another steamy attention grabber was when GAA showed a photo produced by scientists on what the perfect male specimen would look like as billionaire Christian Grey from the controversial book 'The 50 Shades of Grey.' The results? A combination of Brad Pitt’s chin and Patrick Dempsey’s eyes, no complaints here.
What we want more of: Although guest Liza Minelli gave a fun performance singing "New York, New York" in honor of the show's premiere in the city, we want to see more one-on-one sit down interviews between celebrity guests and the hosts.
What to look forward to: An array of expert minds weighing in on controversial topics and the "Toe to Toe" section where you will be able to get the male and female perspective on burning questions each day.
Celebuzz meter (1-10): 7
All in all, they got off to a great start and even though the show is only slated to run until Sept 7 there seems to be some real potential for GAA to go on well past the summer months.
