15 of Tom Cruise’s Most Unforgettable Scientology Quotes (PHOTOS)

Tom Cruise has been a longtime supporter of Scientology, speaking publicly about the religion and why he doesn’t care if people think he’s crazy for pledging his allegiance to L. Ron Hubbard.

Now, after the announcement of his impending divorce from Katie Holmes, insiders are rumbling that the Mission: Impossible star had planned to send their daughter Suri, 6, to Sea Org, a hardcore Scientologist compound. The reports haven’t been officially confirmed, but it’s obvious that Cruise’s life is heavily influenced by Scientology; many even insist that the actor surrounds himself only with people who are affiliated with the Church.

Looking back through his past interviews, Cruise has been verbal about the importance of Scientology. Click through the gallery above to see his most memorable quotes.

Cruise, who is reportedly a high-ranking member of the Church of Scientology, caused quite a stir when he discussed his beliefs before cameras — and a videoclip of the discussion leaked online.

The controversial belief system developed by Hubbard is based on a person being an immortal spiritual being whose survival depends on him/herself and his/her attainment of brotherhood with others and the universe.

“When you’re a Scientologist, and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you’re the only one who can really help… We are the way to happiness. We can bring peace and unite cultures,” Cruise said in the video, which goes on for about ten minutes. Watch the video below.

As Celebuzz previously reported, Holmes announced her decision to divorce the actor, 50, on June 29. A rep for Cruise said he was “deeply saddened” by the announcement.

She is seeking sole custody of Suri, with a source noting, “She felt she had to get out to save her daughter.”

Though Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe hasn’t commented on the reason for the split beyond suggesting “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest,” an insider close to the ex-Dawson’s Creek star told the Los Angeles Times her decision to divorce Cruise was based “largely on her desire to distance Suri from Scientology.”

Cruise’s passion for the controversial religion has been highlighted in several public interviews, including his tangle with TODAY ‘s Matt Lauer after the host mentioned Cruise’s earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants.

As a Scientologist, Cruise doesn’t believe in those kinds of drugs or therapy of any kind — even for postpartum depression, as was the case for Shields.

Lauer also asked Cruise how he could get more people to understand Scientology, which is also practiced by celebrities like John Travolta, Kirstie Alley and Will Smith.

“You just communicate about it,” Cruise said. “If I want to know something, I go and find out. Because I don’t talk about things that I don’t understand.”
